The beliefs under pressure

Load-bearing assumptions

3 assumptions

The foundational beliefs this radar tests against the evidence.

Permanent ID
space-assumption-1
Plain-language explanation
Everything in space has to get there first, and the cost, frequency and reliability of launch decide which projects are worth attempting. This assumes access keeps improving enough to support businesses that launch repeatedly rather than once. Cheaper, more frequent launch would make new ventures possible and change how spacecraft are designed; a reversal would narrow the field again.

space-assumption-2
Plain-language explanation
Useful orbits are finite and increasingly crowded. This assumes satellites can keep operating despite debris, radio interference, close approaches and deliberate interference. Deteriorating conditions would raise insurance and maneuvering costs, and could interrupt the communications, navigation and observation services that many industries and security functions now quietly depend on.

space-assumption-3
Plain-language explanation
A constellation can work perfectly and still fail as a business. This assumes enough customers, government and commercial, pay repeatedly for communications, imagery, positioning and other services to cover building, launching, operating and replacing the hardware. If demand stays thin or public spending shifts, technical success alone will not sustain a larger space economy.

Evidence timeline

No evidence records have been ingested for this radar. Once records exist, each entry shows its source, publication date, analyst interpretation and review status, and links to the assumptions or hurdles it bears on.

Potential impact — pending assessment

No breakthrough capability has yet been assessed as bearing on these assumptions. A relationship appears here only once its mechanism of impact has been recorded. A capability becoming more feasible does not by itself strengthen or weaken an industry assumption.

Future scenarios

Future scenarios will be generated from the interaction of current signals, assumption changes, and breakthrough progress.
