The beliefs under pressure

Load-bearing assumptions

3 assumptions

The foundational beliefs this radar tests against the evidence.

Permanent ID
telecom-assumption-1
Plain-language explanation
Networks are expensive to build and continuously upgrade, and the money has to come from what customers pay to use them. This assumes rising demand actually translates into rising revenue. It often has not: traffic can grow while prices fall, leaving a persistent gap between what networks cost and what they earn, which eventually shows up as weaker investment and service quality.

telecom-assumption-2
Plain-language explanation
Capacity depends on physical things: radio frequencies, masts, fiber, power and the equipment between them. This assumes those can be expanded and kept running fast enough to meet demand, and can withstand storms, outages, attacks and supply disruption. If they cannot, congestion and unreliability spread quickly into payments, healthcare, logistics and public services that assume connectivity is always there.

Permanent ID
telecom-assumption-3
Plain-language explanation
Operators have historically owned the relationship with the customer and the scarce assets underneath it. This assumes that continues as satellite, wireless and platform-delivered connectivity converge. If device makers, cloud platforms or other services come to own the customer and the service layer, operators risk being left with the costly infrastructure and little pricing power over what runs across it.

No prior weekly assessments are stored for this radar. Each approved week is kept here with its original analysis period, so a later week never overwrites an earlier one.

Evidence timeline

No evidence records have been ingested for this radar. Once records exist, each entry shows its source, publication date, analyst interpretation and review status, and links to the assumptions or hurdles it bears on.

Potential impact — pending assessment

No breakthrough capability has yet been assessed as bearing on these assumptions. A relationship appears here only once its mechanism of impact has been recorded. A capability becoming more feasible does not by itself strengthen or weaken an industry assumption.

Future scenarios

Future scenarios will be generated from the interaction of current signals, assumption changes, and breakthrough progress.
